The Trade Blotter works with both the Active Trader and the Order Entry Tools in ThinkOrSwim (TOS).

"I was looking for a way to streamline my workflow when day trading. I came up with this Trade Blotter. I have used it trading the SPX and SPY. I am asking interested traders, like you, if this has any potential and what capabilities you want to see. Give this blotter a try on a weekend when the markets are closed before going live with the blotter. I use this blotter to trade at-the-money (atm)  long SPY options and bypass the TOS option chain".

From a stock chart or at any website,  a single-click with the Trade Blotter instantly sets an option Strike price and sends a long call or long put option order to TOS.  The TOS option chain TAB is not used for "at-the-money" options. The blotter uses the clipboard on your computer.  (See the above picture)  Alternatively, if you know what strike to use, you can verbally speak the trade, SPX 4150 call,  to the Trade Blotter.

Set the number of contracts and use your mouse to check-off if it is to be a limit or a STOP order. Then from the TOS Order Entry Tools, confirm and send the order.

Caveat: If you are fast and quick typing a trade directly into TOS, then this Trade Blotter may not be useful for you. Or else with one click here,  send in the trade order (ATM strikes are super fast).

You can save a COPY of that TOS order when in TOS so that you can access it later. In the meantime, you can type in a "different" trade for execution. Then restore the COPY and trade it.

If you make a COPY of the order, the original trade from the trade blooter is gone.  Use the REPEAT link in the Trade Blotter to automatically re-send the "original" strike price again to TOS.

The Order Entry Tools is illustrated in the above picture. Click the TOS clipboard icon (see red arrow) to display the option trade that was sent from the blotter.  Then set the contracts and the price, and click [Confirm and Send].  There is a TOS setting to keep the "Order Entry Tools" up all the time. You can change the BUY to a SELL after the buy order is executed. The TOS Order Entry Tools is accessed from the Trade Tab, from any Stock Chart, and from the TOS Flexible Grid.

Speak to the Trade Blotter

The blotter is able to instantly set an option Strike price for TOS wth a single-click, no need to verbally call in your own strike price (See the Blotter Settings below). This is lightning fast.

Try this first...  Click the (Bolt) button here to pop up the Trade Blotter. Click on the [Dictate now] button.

Then speak these words clearly as you articulate the vowels:  Give permission to use your microphone.

"How are you"

If the above works...  Then try speaking the SPX 4150 PUT option.

Click on the [Dictate now] button in the Trade Blotter.

Then speak these words clearly as you articulate the vowels:

"Strike     Down  4   1   5   0"

The blotter will send the option to TOS and display "4150p" for the long put option (BUY).

Finally speak the SPX 4150 CALL option.

Click on the [Dictate now] button in the Trade Blotter.

Then speak these words clearly as you articulate the vowels:

"Strike     Ball  4   1   5   0"

The blotter will send the opton to TOS and display "4150c" for the long call option (BUY).

Finally go to the TOS Order Entry Tools and click the TOS clipboard icon (see above) to display the option trade that was sent from the trade blotter.

In the illustration below,  look for the label STRIKE.  Then click this link, call or put, to automatically set a new strike price (atm) and instantly send the option trade to TOS.

Blotter Settings: Click the "triple-bar" in the blotter (see above) to set up the ticker symbol and the option expiration date. Enter a 0 for otm if you want to automatically set the "at-the-money"  option strike price.

In the illustration above,  look for the label STRIKE.  Then single-click this link, call or put, to automatically set a new strike price (atm) and instantly send the option trade to TOS.

If you use the TOS Active Trader, check off the corresponding blotter setting (see above) and the blotter will send the option to the Active Trader. Uncheck that box and the order will go to the Order Entry Tools.

In the TOS Active Trader picture below, click on the code at the top-left, then paste in the code (option strike & expiration) that was sent from the Trade Blotter. What I like most is I can be watching a stock chart (or visiting any website)  and when I am ready, I simply pop-up the trade blotter on top of the chart. Then with one-click, I send a long "at-the-money" option to TOS for execution. This is lightning fast.
